Life is a gift. What we do with that gift is up to us to decide. At some point in life, each and every one of us will discover that there is something that we would like to do more than anything else. Something that we dream about. Something that may or may not bring us a lot of money and would be a great challenge to achieve. This is a dream and it is essential that you know that it is possible to make all your dreams a reality.
The choice is yours. You can either pursue what is written on your heart or you can work hard at helping someone else fulfill theirs. Most people grow up, get a job, raise a family, never go after their dream and then die with all their music still inside of them, never knowing what they could have been. Don’t let that be you. Dare to live life on your terms, doing what you want to do. Take the following simple steps to realize your dream:
1. Make a plan.
You cannot get to your destination without a road map. Without a plan it is just wishful thinking. Be serious about your dream by putting it down on paper, in the form of an action plan, with set goals and deadlines. Explore your options. Decide which one is the best way to your ultimate destination.
Be aware that all great achievements cost something. What sacrifices would you have to make to get there and are you willing to make those sacrifices? If you are determined to do whatever it takes, proceed to the next step.
2. Identify and remove whatever is stopping you from pursuing your dream.
This is usually the most life changing step and the scariest, because it takes courage for lasting life changes to happen. It may call for you to get rid of unhealthy relationships in your life, to change your mentality, quit your job or even move to a different location. It will not be easy but it is absolutely necessary that you make the required changes in order to reach your dream.
Sometimes, you will not have to be so drastic and can transition into your dream. For example, you might be able to use your current job to fund it. Decide the best way that will allow you to start executing your action plan and move on to the next step.
3. Begin working your plan, keeping in mind your deadline and ultimate goal.
This is where the hard work starts. You will need dogged determination, great discipline, unfailing perseverance and resilience. For some people, the hardest part is to start. This procrastination is a fear of the outcome. Some people fear success, while others fear failure. It is always better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. And as for fear of success, there is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others will not feel insecure around you and your playing small does not serve the world. Stop making excuses why you cannot and start seeing why you can. Live, breathe and believe in your dream. Do something every day to move you closer and always remember the next step.
4. Never give up.
Tell yourself that no matter how hard it is or how hard it gets, you will make it. Refuse to play the role of victim and accept full responsibility for your destiny. You create your destiny. It is never easy, but nothing that is worth having comes easy. Obstacles will always come. You succeed by going over, under and around each obstacle.
You will encounter naysayers and dream killers along the way. Nobody has the right to tell you what you can and cannot achieve. Some of the greatest people were once written off by experts. People who never followed their dream will always try and discourage yours. Ignore it, or better yet, use it as motivation to prove them wrong and keep going. Believe that it is not over until you win.
Fight for your dream. Let nothing stop you. For people who are chasing their dream, life has a special kind of meaning. Now, you have been given the necessary steps for bringing it into fruition, so what are you waiting for? Get up and go after it.!
